a) Setting up appropriate equipment
|
To set up the equipment I had to set up each scene.
For all the scenes we used a tripod to get a stable and balanced shot. For the camera we set the camera to record in 1920 at 24 frames a second. We also got the props we needed for the classroom scene which included the book and also getting people to be in the right positions which included getting someone to act as the teacher. |
b) Following script / Storyboard
|
In the end we followed the script and storyboard well.
During the adaptation from the script onto the storyboard we changed a number of things to get a more fluid story as well as changing things to fit the directors (Oliver Cox) vision for the film. This included adding more to the start, with a close up of his eye and a panning shot as he runs out the room. We also changed the warp scene to cut and transition from being in the cockpit to all the ships warping to earth. However overall we followed our script very well with the story followed as specified. |
c) Following safe working practices
|
For following safe working practices we took all
precautions and doing a Risk assessment in all of the places we shot as well as the classroom where we did out editing. We took all the precautions whilst filming as well as while at our desks as well as adjusting our desks to be the most ergonomic such as adjusting the chairs and monitors. |
d) Following production process
|
We followed the production process well. We started
with the required paperwork and permission forms for filming, then went onto the script and storyboarding. After this we went and delegated the different sections of work out. We all did a rough edit in Maya and in premier to get an overall look we wanted to get and used what we had learnt from this to adjust and improve our work. The final stage of the edit was then done with a rough cut done first using the rough footage and then the final edit done with a few tweaks to the edit as we went through such as adjusting and re-rendering part we want to do again. We were then left with our final edit and had finished the product. |

EDIT SHEET
Review of footage
I am most pleased with the sequence of Scene 3, Scene 4 and Scene 5 as they flow together well,
maintain continuity and showcase some creative camerawork, such as the camera panning in scene
5 which changes direction both horizontally and vertically.
The shoot generally went well by all accords, external lighting cleared up for shots to look good,
although, this was after we had done some shots in the morning which we then had to go back and
reshoot.

Animated shots didn’t need any reshoots since we could test the scene before rendering in order
to remove any issues.
to remove any issues.
Initial edit structure
We plan to mix the animated shots in with live action shots in order to tell two stories simultaneously.
One about the alien ships coming to earth from deep space, preparing to land on the planet while
an alien student from earth reacts to his species coming for him. By interlinking each scene with a
counterpart from the other perspective, it connotes both events are happening at the same time.
This should pay off when, in the final scene, the alien mothership descends from the sky while
the student gazes into the sky.
